Italian space logistics startup D-Orbit has secured over 100 million euros in a funding round led by Japan’s Marubeni, with participation from existing investors like Seraphim Space Investment Trust, United Ventures, Indaco Venture Partners, and Primo Ventures. The funds will support D-Orbit’s efforts to deploy more satellites and enhance services like space debris clean-up. Reuters reported that “the startup did not disclose its valuation after the fundraise, but it was valued at more than $1.28 billion in January 2022 in a blank-check merger that was later scrapped.”

D-Orbit is looking to distinguish itself by providing technology to guide satellites to their planned orbits after successful rocket launches. With clients in both government and space agencies, including the European Space Agency, Planet Labs, and the University of Southern California, the company has seen triple-digit yearly revenue growth since 2021.

Along with their ION satellite carrier that manoeuvres around various orbits to precisely deliver customer satellites, D-Orbit also provides services such as space debris disposal, satellite refuelling, and space-based cloud computing.
